Trump Aide Pours Fuel On Fire, Says India Among Countries US Needs ‘To Fix’ Amid Tariff Row | World News

US Trade Secretary Howard Lutnick said that in the midst of the ongoing tariff order, India is among the countries that the United States should ‘correct’, accusing the new Delhi of restricting market access and doing actions that harm American interests.

Speaking to Newsnation, Lutnick said, “There is a group of our country to correct such as Switzerland, Brazil, India – these are countries that really need to react to America. Open markets, stop doing the actions that harm America, and therefore we contradict them.”

Lutnick’s latest statements continue to criticize India on trade and energy policies. He refers to the reaction he had given to the tariffs given as “bravado dazar during India’s Trump administration.

“Countries such as India and Brazil need to know that sales to US consumers require cooperation with the US President.” He warned.

Trump 50% Tariff

The ongoing tariff order began after US President Donald Trump gave 25% tariff to Indian goods, referring to unfair trade practices, and then adding more than India’s 25% tariff continued to maintain Russian oil. This brought the total tariffs in India to 50%, which was imposed on any country by the US.

While India argued that the country is unjustly targeted, India strongly opposed these tariffs. New Delhi, in 2024, despite the ongoing geopolitical tensions in 2024, 2023’te 17.2 billion euros worth of Russia and 67.5 billion euros trade of goods stressed. Indian officials argue that the US approach shows a double standard because the European countries do not encounter similar punishment actions despite their comprehensive trade with Moscow.

Lutnick’s words come as long as India and the United States continue to negotiate. A delegation led by the Minister of Trade and Industry Piyuh Goyal visited Washington between 22-24 September. During the visit, the delegation met with the US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and the US Ambassador and appointed Indian Sergio Gor to discuss a potential trade agreement.
