Telangana HC quashes FIRs registered against Bandi Sanjay, KTR in different cases

High Court Judge Anil Kumar Jukanti on Thursday quashed the First Information Report (FIR) issued by Warangal Kamalapur police against Union Home Minister Bandi Sanjay over the leak of tenth standard annual examination Hindi question paper in 2023.

Controversy broke out over the leak of the question paper after the Kamalapur police filed a criminal case against the then Karimnagar MP and state BJP president Bandi Sanjay, citing different sections of the Indian Penal Code, Public Examinations (Prevention of Malpractices) Act and the Information Technology Act. The leaked question paper was forwarded to Bandi Sanjay’s WhatsApp number by Boora Prashanth, the second accused in the case.

The judge observed that the investigation into the case was being conducted haphazardly. The judge said the contents of the complaint made by the school principal did not match the sections referred to by the police.

In a separate case, the judge quashed an FIR lodged by Hyderabad’s Saifabad police against BRS working president and MLA KT Rama Rao over a drone flying near the Martyrs’ memorial in the Assembly during the 2023 Assembly elections. The police argued that Mr Rao needed permission to fly the drone and that failure to obtain such permission was a breach of the code of conduct.
