While reading this post from Trump, It’s probably worth keeping in mind that Vice President J.D. Vance spent much of his time in Budapest fuming about unacceptable foreign interference. in the election and declared that it was absolutely outrageous.
For this reason, Yes. Make of it what you will.
Trump tells Hungarians: “Go out and vote for Viktor Orbán”
in the night, US president Donald Trump reiterated his support for Viktor Orbán ahead of Sunday’s vote, urging Hungarians to “go out and vote for him” and emphasizing that he “will be with him until the end.”
Frankly, this isn’t Trump’s first intervention in this campaign; The duo’s history goes back more than a decade.
Earlier this week, US vice president JD Vance called him on his cell phone while he was on stage he also talks “Hungarian-American friendship day” At his pre-election rally in Budapest, Trump had also previously recorded a video supporting the embattled Hungarian prime minister.
In today’s post on Truth Social he said:
“The Right Honorable Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, is a truly strong and powerful Leader. A proven track record of delivering exceptional results. He fights tirelessly for and loves his Great Country and its People, just as I do for the United States of America. Viktor works hard to Protect Hungary, Grow the Economy, Create Jobs, Promote Trade, Stop Illegal Immigration and Maintain LAW AND ORDER! Relations between Hungary and the United States have reached new heights of cooperation and spectacular achievements under my administration, thanks in large part to Prime Minister Orbán. I look forward to continuing to work closely with him so that both our Countries can further advance this tremendous path to SUCCESS and cooperation. I was proud to Endorse Viktor for Re-Election in 2022 and am honored to do so once again.
Election Day is Sunday, April 12, 2026. Hungary: GO OUT AND VOTE FOR VİKTOR ORBÁN. He is a true friend, warrior and WINNER and I Fully and Completely Endorse his Re-election as Prime Minister of Hungary — VIKTOR ORBÁN WILL NEVER LEAVE THE GREAT PEOPLE OF HUNGARY. I AM ALWAYS BY HIM! President DONALD J. TRUMP”

We spoke to a few Budapest residents in the city center this morning. Jászai Mari Square.
Many were rushing to get to work but still stopped to chat with us about Sunday’s voting. looks like it’s getting into each conversation here lately – as they say, even at family dinners.
Some They were not so keen on sharing exactly which party they would vote for but each had strong opinions about the two main candidates: Hungary’s far-right prime minister Viktor Orbanhas been in power for 16 years and Peter MagyarA young(ish) centre-right figure who emerged from Fidesz circles and opposed the party a year ago.
When we talked to people, we felt that although Magyar was ahead in the polls, he was not necessarily seen as the “perfect candidate” but rather as a protest vote against Orbán.
People planning to vote for him I am hopeful about Sunday’s vote and predict a clear win for Magyar. He has the best chance so far of ending Orbán’s reign.
However We also met a surprisingly high number of Fidesz supporters in the capital Who resonates with the ruling party’s message: Sunday is about choosing “between war and peace.” A Fidesz voter called the opposition candidate “narcissistic”; others said they were pleased that Orbán supported ethnic Hungarians in neighboring countries.
