Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) received 59 complaints during its weekly Prajavani program on Monday, February 16, 2026, which included complaints not only about encroachments on lakes, nalas, roads, parks, government lands and public use areas, but also about potential fire hazards in residential areas.

Oxygen tanks in basements

Some residents expressed concerns about plastic and scrap shops operating near homes, the storage of flammable materials in basements, and commercial establishments operating in residential buildings. Complainants called on HYDRAA to conduct emergency inspections and prevent fire accidents. HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath reviewed all 59 petitions and assigned them to the concerned authorities for correction.

Jubilee Hills Road No. 44 residents claimed that commercial activities in residential areas, including textile and furniture stores, posed a fire risk. They complained that oxygen cylinders were stored in basements and requested an urgent inspection.

Food outlets on ground floor, hostels on upper floors in Madhapur

In Madhapur, residents reported that hostels operate on the upper floors, while hotels, fast-food centers and canteens operate on the ground floor, warning of serious consequences in case of a fire. They demanded strict implementation of fire safety norms.

In Bachupally in Medchal-Malkajgiri district, locals expressed concerns that rainwater drainage connected to a sewer line passing through Pragathinagar for the road widening project could increase the risk of floods, calling for remedial measures to be taken during construction.

In Ramachandrapuram division of Sangareddy district, residents of Srinivasa Nagar alleged encroachment on government land reserved for public use.

Rape of Kondapur village

Similarly, residents of Rajarajeshwari Nagar in Kondapur village of Serilingampally mandal complained about encroachments on parks, roads and land for school (3,600 sq. metres), university (4 acres), community building (2,181 sq. metres) and park area (4,387 sq. metres) and sought immediate protection of these properties.
