‘I feel so grateful to be alive,’ Kent university meningitis survivor says

Twenty-one-year-old Annabelle Mackay spoke to the BBC about her experience recovering from a meningitis infection.

The University of Kent law student believes he may have contracted the virus at Club Chemistry on March 5, or possibly while at a different venue the evening before.

There have been 29 cases of meningitis linked to the outbreak so far, and a vaccination program for students has been launched.

Mackay told the BBC: “I’m so grateful to be alive and to be here. I’m still dealing with the effects at the moment but I think I just need to focus on my healing, getting better and getting back to myself.”
