Ana Parra was 20 when she first met her estranged half-brother, Daniel Parra, but the rapport was immediate.
The Spanish couple, who now have two children, are campaigning for the law to be reformed so they can marry legally.
Ana was always aware that she had a half-brother somewhere. Throughout her childhood, she knew that her father had abandoned her to have a relationship with another woman with whom he had children.
One of these children, Daniel, said: “Someone told me that maybe I had a sister, but my father never told me, it was something he wanted to hide.”
Wanting to meet her brother, Ana found Daniel on Facebook and suggested they meet. They say it’s love at first sight reports the mirror.

“We didn’t want to realize it,” Ana explained, “we got angry at ourselves because it was hard to accept and break this taboo; we are sisters even though we don’t feel like it.”
Their first kiss took place at a party. “We were partying, we slowly approached each other and gave each other our first kiss.”
Ana recalled being “embarrassed” by what happened, but Daniel said the moment was transformative: “That kiss broke all the barriers, marked the before and after, it was like a reality check.”
They planned to see each other again a few days later but were hesitant to admit romantic feelings.

Daniel said: “Imagine you like a girl and for some moral reason you are banned from being with her. It’s really hard to deal with that.”
They chose to reveal their relationship after a trip to London, where the couple felt they could act as a couple without judgment.
Ana said: “It was the first time we could say we acted like a real couple in public. We went out to dinner, went for walks. It was like a burst of freedom.”
Incredibly, the couple chose to debut together on TV, with Anna explaining: “We didn’t want to tell everyone our story one by one, so we decided to tell it this way.”
However, they faced harsh criticism online for their incestuous relationship. “There are people on social media telling us we will burn in hell,” Ana said.
That didn’t deter the sibling lovers, who now have two children. They claim that both are “perfectly healthy” despite the increased risk of recessive disease given the genetic relationship of the parents.
Consensual incest is legal in Spain. However, the Spanish Civil Code prohibits marriage between relatives.

Daniel and Ana aim to change this and hope that one day they can get married.
“Societies must move forward and not cling to traditionalism,” Ana said. “Homosexuals were not allowed to marry and now they can.
“We love each other, and that’s what should be valid. We’re not hurting anyone. That’s why we want people to know our story.”
