India–Austria talks focus on trade, technology and peacekeeping

New York: India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador P Harish and Austrian Deputy Defense Minister Arnold Kammel held discussions on further deepening bilateral cooperation between the two countries in wide-ranging areas, including trade and peacekeeping.

The meeting took place right after EAM S Jaishankar met Austrian Foreign Minister M Beate Meinl-Reisinger on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that in December last year, India and Austria held the 8th Foreign Ministry Consultations, which covered the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, including political, economic and trade ties, as well as cultural exchanges and people-to-people relations.

“The discussions covered a wide range of areas, including political participation, trade and economic cooperation, science and technology, cultural exchanges and people-to-people ties. Earlier in September, Austria launched a major initiative to strengthen people-to-people ties and education between the countries, attracting Indian students to its leading technical universities and meeting the “huge demand” for skilled labour.
