Manipur: DGP Mukesh Singh praises Cycle Patrol initiative
The Bike Patrol initiative has been promoted in various hill districts as an effective policing model that allows close monitoring of the security situation in each settlement while strengthening police-public interaction, a senior police official said.
Mukesh Singh, who was earlier serving as Director General of Police in Ladakh, took over as Manipur Police chief on June 1. Since then, he has been visiting areas both in the Imphal Valley and the hill districts and holding a series of meetings with senior police officers, Army personnel, paramilitary forces and officials of various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to review the current law and order situation, crime trends and operational preparedness.

Singh, the senior-most IPS officer, accompanied by Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Lhari Dorjee Lhatoo, visited Kakching district, 8th Manipur Rifles Battalion Headquarters in Leikun and Chandel district on Monday to review security preparations, police measures and welfare of the department.
DGP in Kakching district has reviewed the preparedness of the district police to prevent any untoward incident in sensitive areas during the ongoing agricultural season. Interacting with the district police, CAPFs and Central agencies, he emphasized the need for intensified efforts for effective investigation, speedy disposal of cases, sustained operations against anti-national elements and drug traffickers and seizure of illegal arms and ammunition.
The police chief assured officers and staff that those who demonstrate exemplary professionalism and outstanding performance will be appropriately rewarded. He also interacted with representatives of various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and discussed issues related to law and order and community cooperation. The DGP chaired a review meeting on posting, static guards and law and order duties at various police stations and police stations. He emphasized professionalism, discipline and healthy work practices while encouraging officers and staff to maintain a harmonious environment within the unit.

Singh also urged the officers to explore innovative ways to optimally utilize the unit’s land and other available resources to enhance the welfare of the department.
During his visit to Chandel district, the DGP inaugurated the newly renovated Conference Hall and newly established Cyber Cell at the Office of the Superintendent of Police, aimed at strengthening cybercrime investigation and modernizing police infrastructure in the district.
The DGP later held interaction sessions with officers of Chandel District Police, representatives of various NGOs and Assam Rifles. During these interactions, he reviewed policing-related issues, emphasized professional and people-centered policing, appreciated the excellent coordination between the district police and NGOs in maintaining peace and harmony, and underlined the importance of continuous inter-agency cooperation.
Singh visited more than 10 districts covering both hill districts and Imphal Valley in the last one month to review the law and order situation and assess the operational preparedness of security forces, the official added.
