Vladimir Putin Offers Trump A 1-Year Extension To Nuclear Arms Pact

Moscow, September 22 (Reuters) – Russian President Vladimir Putin presented a nuclear weapon control agreement that would expand the last treaty that limits the nuclear weapons of both countries for a year on Monday, on Monday.
Russia and the United States have the largest nuclear arsenal in the world. The last treaty limiting the number of these weapons will end next year on February 5th.
The new initial treaty includes strategic nuclear weapons designed by both parties to hit the enemy’s military, economic and political power centers and limits the number of war headings deployed in 1,550 on both sides. If the treaty is not extended or changed, it is likely that both will violate this limit.
Putin is under pressure to end the Ukrainian War
Putin said that his proposal is for the interests of the foreseen of global soliferation and that he could help encourage dialogue with Washington about weapons control and that Moscow is part of a series of security problems that have raised east-west tensions to the most dangerous levels since the Cold War.
The proposal made at a time when Ukraine tried to persuade Trump to impose harsh sanctions against Russia, opened to the public at a meeting of the Security Council by Putin.

“Russia is preparing to adhere to the central numerical boundaries within the scope of the new starting agreement for a year after February 5, 2026,” the Russian President said.
“Later, based on an analysis of the situation, we will decide whether these voluntary self -imposed restrictions will be maintained.
“We believe that this measure will only be valid if the USA does not take steps that weaken or violate their existing deterrence capabilities.”
The proposal seems to be a unilateral policy change by Moscow, which has so far insisted on interacting with Washington only on such issues – general ties that have been prevented by sharp differences on the war in Ukraine.
There was no response from Washington.
Negotiations about overhaul the Treaty to begin
After the end of the new beginning, a little more than four months, the differences in Ukraine did not start negotiations on renewing or overhauling the treaty, but Trump talked about the desire to make a new nuclear weapon control agreement with China.
Beijing rejected the idea that it should be included.
Putin said that Russia will monitor US nuclear weapons and defense activities and pay particular attention to Washington’s plans to strengthen missing missile defenses and ideas to distribute missile measures in space.
“We will proceed on the basis that the practical implementation of such destabilizing actions can invalidate our efforts to protect the status quo in the starting area, Put Putin said. “We will answer accordingly.”
