Iceland father says he lost custody for opposing autistic son’s sex change

A distraught father in Iceland says he was deprived of his parental rights after speaking out against his 11-year-old autistic son’s gender reassignment, accusing the courts of prioritizing progressive ideology over a parent’s right to protect his child (a case that attracted international attention, including from billionaire Elon Musk).

Alexandre Rocha, a French citizen who has lived in Iceland for 25 years, lost custody of the child to his mother in December and told Fox News Digital that he believes the judge ruled against him because he questioned the long-term effects of puberty blockers and hormone treatments.

“This should be a crime,” Rocha said of the medical interventions. “You are abusing children, you are castrating boys like my child. This should not happen. This is an ideology that has no place for children.”

He argued that his then-10-year-old child, whose worldview was shaped by video games such as Minecraft and Roblox, failed to grasp the permanent consequences of gender reassignment.

“Naturally every child [after a separation and autism diagnosis] Rocha said he will experience a mental challenge. “The transition is a happy place. They feel validated, they like the attention… To me, the concern is long-term. Four years from now, or six years from now, are they still going to be happy because they have blockers and more hormones? Is it really fixing the underlying thing, the mental difficulty or difficulty, whatever they’re going through?”

Although her child was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder just eight months ago, Rocha said the court and medical experts “slightly missed” the diagnosis during the hearing.

She noted that children on the autism spectrum often have difficulty feeling “in their own skin” or “wanting to be something else,” adding that her child sometimes prefers to be a cat wearing a tail or cat ears.

But when she raised her concerns in court, Rocha said an Icelandic endocrinologist “completely dismissed” her under oath, assured her that hormone medications “cause no problems” and refused to examine underlying mental health factors.

Rocha, who is now outside the medical decision-making process, said she fears what treatment her son will receive without his knowledge.

“She could be on hormone therapy and I don’t know anything about it,” she said.

Rocha said the boy’s mother was pushing “an ever-stronger ideology” and had to use the advanced artificial intelligence (AI) program ChatGPT to understand terms like “deadname,” which refers to a person’s birth name before a gender change.

“I can’t support this kind of talk. To me, it’s evil. It’s beyond love,” he said. “You can’t talk about death when you’re talking about a child. That doesn’t make sense to me.”

Rocha said she was notified in February that the boy’s mother had officially changed her son’s name to a female name, “which means his ID will now clearly state that he is a girl.”

The father said he believed the court’s decision was not about his child’s welfare but rather a coordinated effort to silence dissenters.

“It’s controlling the parents. It’s controlling me,” he said. “To silence me. To give all power to this ideology.”

Rocha’s story has garnered international attention and recently caught Musk’s attention.

The Tesla CEO has been outspoken about transgender issues after announcing that his son Xavier has transitioned to female and now uses the name Vivian Jenna Wilson.

Musk said he was “essentially tricked” into giving Wilson approval to continue puberty blockers without “any understanding of what was going on.”

In response to a post about Rocha’s story on the popular X account @libsoftiktok, Musk said, “The awakened mind virus is even affecting Iceland.”

Rocha said he was “very surprised and honored” that Musk shared his story.

“I think we have a common fight,” he said. “Because at the end of the day, we are all parents, regardless of borders or nationalities.”

Musk did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Beyond politics, Rocha said he misses every day moments with his son, who he said he hasn’t seen since January.

“I miss story times and cooking together at night,” he said, noting how much he enjoyed sharing 1990s Steven Spielberg movies like “Jurassic Park” with his son.

Rocha recently filed a daily fine against the child’s mother for denying her court-ordered visitation rights.

The mother denied intentionally withholding visits, claiming the child refused to visit because Rocha rejected her transgender identity and did not use her new name, according to court documents.

Rocha submitted a witness statement claiming that their last visit was uneventful and that the child appeared happy and safe in her presence.

She recalled a recent visit in which her son said he “missed being with my grandmother and my sister.”

“As a parent, you really worry when you don’t know what’s going on on the other side,” Rocha said. “We are slowly separating, and this is a very sad consequence of that.”

Despite pressure to remain silent, Rocha appealed to other parents to trust their “gut instincts”, speak up and seek professional guidance.

“I’m here for my child and his future,” he said. “That’s the only thing I care about. “I’m campaigning for his future.”

The child’s mother could not immediately be reached by Fox News Digital for comment.
