Iceland introduces big change at 960 UK stores | UK | News

A major supermarket in the UK has launched a major change to its stores across the country. This move will benefit people over 60 who are struggling with expensive bills this winter.
Iceland, which has 960 stores across the UK, will reduce the prices of 250 products by Wednesday, November 5. The chain is currently running a 10% discount program for over 60s if they shop on Tuesday. The company has now reduced the cost of certain items often favored by older customers, including butter, sausages and stir-fry ingredients.
As reported by Birmingham LiveIceland chief commercial officer Paul Dhaliwal said the store aims to support you “whether you’re over 60, a student or a parent putting family favorites on the dinner table”.
He added: “We know this time of year can be difficult for many older people, from talking to our elderly customers we know that every penny counts and every degree on the thermostat makes a difference.
“That’s why we’re doing the right thing by lowering the prices of products our over-60s really love and trust. From fish and chips to classic roast dinners, we want to ensure our customers can enjoy good, hearty food without worrying about the cost.”
The move comes amid a slight decline in food prices of 0.2% month-on-month. Grocery bills remain high, with Grant Fitzner, chief economist at the Office for National Statistics (ONS), saying the latest data offers a “little glimmer of hope”.
He told BBC Radio 4: “There’s only been a 0.2% fall in food prices over the month. And it’s still running at a pretty high level of 4.5%. But I think it’s encouraging that we’ve seen the steady increase come down a little bit.”
“This is just one month’s figures, so we’ll have to see what happens in the coming months, but there’s still a small glimmer of hope.”
