Illegal migrant shot after ‘attacking ICE agent with shovel’ while evading arrest in Minnesota

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey accused ICE officials of “creating chaos” in his city after an agent shot a shovel-wielding attacker in the leg after he was “ambushed” during an arrest.
The Department of Homeland Security said the suspect was an illegal immigrant from Venezuela and fled on foot Wednesday night, then attacked the agent with a “broomstick or shovel” along with two other men.
It was learned that the suspect, who was shot in the leg, was in a stable condition in the hospital. His two accomplices were also detained by the police and the agent involved was also hospitalized after being violently attacked by the trio.
Mask-wearing law enforcement officers were using tear gas and flash grenades on protesters at the scene, just 4.5 miles north of where Good was shot, in an attempt to control the crowd.
Frey urged protesters who arrived at the scene to ‘go home’, warning that they were making the situation worse and ‘taking the bait’.
‘For anyone who is taking the bait tonight: stop,’ he said at a late-night press conference to address the second ICE shooting to rock his city in a week.
‘It’s not helpful. Go home. We cannot counter Donald Trump’s chaos with our own chaos.
‘You’re not helping the undocumented immigrants in our city, you’re not helping the people who call this place home.’

The reported shooting occurred amid civil unrest following the death last week of Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three, during ongoing ICE operations in Minnesota.

Department of Homeland Security Deputy Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said the officer involved in the shooting ‘feared for his life and safety after being ambushed by three men.’
“The officer took a defensive shot to defend his life,” McLaughlin added.
The incident occurred around 18:50 local time, during a ‘targeted interception of the traffic of an illegal alien from Venezuela in Minneapolis’ by federal law enforcement.
It is claimed that the criminal was ‘released into the country’ by former president Joe Biden in 2022.
‘The suspect, who wanted to escape from capture, fled the scene with his vehicle and crashed into a parked vehicle. The suspect then fled on foot, McLaughlin said.
‘The law enforcement officer intercepted the individual on foot and attempted to apprehend him when the individual began to resist and violently assault the officer.’
During the conflict, two more people came out of a nearby apartment and attacked law enforcement officers with a snow shovel and a broom handle.
‘While the police officer was ambushed and attacked by two men, the main subject broke free and began hitting the officer with a shovel or broomstick.’
The first target of the targeted traffic stop was the man who was shot in the leg, authorities said.
‘The officer and the subject who were attacked are in hospital. Both attackers are in custody.’
Initial reports suggest the man was shot in the leg, but his condition is stable and he is currently in custody
Protesters began to flock to the area where the shooting allegedly took place
McLaughlin criticized Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey for their continued statements against ICE agents in the state, stating that the duo “actively encourages organized resistance against ICE and federal law enforcement.”
“Their hateful rhetoric and resistance to men and women who are just trying to do their jobs must end,” McLaughlin said.
‘Federal law enforcement is facing a 1,300% increase in attacks against them as they risk their lives to apprehend criminals and lawbreakers.’
But Frey hit back, arguing that the arrival of up to 3,000 immigration officers had ‘created chaos’ on the streets and increased the workload of the community’s 600 full-time police officers.
‘We have ICE agents creating chaos along with border patrol,’ he warned.
‘This is not creating security. The fact that most of the shootings in the city this year were carried out by ICE certainly does not create safety.
‘This is disgusting and intolerable,’ he said. He appealed to members of the public who may have been watching from other states across the country, asking them to imagine such violent scenes taking place in their own backyards.
‘If it were your city, this too would be unbearable.’
Frey once again called on the Trump administration to recall ICE agents deployed to Minnesota, stating that he was “deeply concerned” that his city “did not have time” to pursue legal action to force the agents to leave.
‘People are afraid,’ he said. ‘The atmosphere is tense.’
As the Trump administration looks to step up deportation efforts, as many as 3,000 ICE agents have taken to the streets of Minneapolis amid concerns of widespread fraud within the local Somali community.
Following Good’s death, tensions came to a head last week when classes were canceled at area public schools as protesters took to the streets to challenge the administration and demand the removal of immigration officials.
At least 60 agitators have been charged over the past five days with obstructing or attacking immigration officials in Minnesota, ICE official Marcos Charles told Fox.

Protesters had gathered in the area last week amid mass unrest following the death of Renee Nicole Good.
‘We will arrest anyone who interferes with or obstructs any of these enforcement actions,’ Charles said. ‘We have already arrested 60 people who were in our way, obstructing us or attacking a police officer.’
Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, was shot three times in the face by ICE agent Jonathan Ross last week after she ignored requests to get out of her car and attempted to reverse drive during a protest.
Witnesses said Good and his wife, Rebecca, acted as legal observers and filmed the protest.
Renee was seen on security cameras blocking the road with her SUV for four minutes before she was killed.
Immediately after the shooting, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem called Good’s actions “an act of domestic terrorism,” while defending Ross as an experienced law enforcement officer who followed his training.
He claimed he shot Good or other agents after believing he was trying to run them over with his vehicle.
Volatile anti-ICE protests have broken out from New York to Texas to California in the wake of Good’s death and the Trump administration’s defense of the shooter, triggering arrests and raising fears of unrest across the country.

At least five protesters were arrested in Austin, Texas, over the weekend, while hundreds of demonstrators filled downtown Los Angeles on Saturday night, prompting police to order dispersal and form skirmish lines outside federal facilities.
In Minneapolis, where Good was killed, thousands of people marched from Powderhorn Park to Lake Street and chanted his name in immigrant neighborhoods.
Mayor Jacob Frey said most of the protests remained peaceful, although 29 people were arrested Friday night on property damage charges.
