Telangana will face cold wave conditions on December 9 as IMD has issued a yellow alert for seven districts. Temperatures are expected to drop 3-4°C below normal; Some areas have already recorded lows below 10°C. Fog, mist and cold mornings are expected to continue for the next two days.

Telangana is expected to experience a sharp drop in temperatures today (December 9) with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a cold wave warning for seven districts. The minimum temperature in various parts of the state is expected to fall 3-4°C below the seasonal average in the next 48 hours, prompting authorities to advise residents to take necessary precautions.

Seven Regions Under IMD Yellow Alert

IMD has placed the following districts under yellow alert due to the expected cold wave:
Adilabad, Komuram Bheem, Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy.

The forecast calls for fog or mist in the early hours, followed by partly cloudy skies later in the day. Daytime temperatures are expected to reach around 31°C, while night temperatures may drop to around 13°C.

IMD noted that temperatures in Telangana were significantly lower than normal on December 8, with deviations up to 5.1°C below the average.

Temperature Data Shows Severe Overnight Cooling

According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), 12 districts recorded temperatures below 10°C between the mornings of December 7 and 8.
The lowest temperature documented was 7.2°C at Kohir in Sangareddy district, making it one of the coldest readings in the state this season.

Weather Systems That Affect the Drop in Temperatures

IMD reports that a trough of easterly winds is currently located near 87°E over the southeastern Bay of Bengal at lower atmospheric levels. This system contributes to the cold and foggy conditions prevailing in Telangana.

Officials continue to monitor temperature trends as the state braces for colder mornings and nights in the coming days. Especially those living in alerted areas are advised to stay warm and follow safety rules during the cold wave.
