Well-marked low pressure area in Bay of Bengal may cause heavy rain in Tamil Nadu
A prominent low pressure area that formed over the southwestern Bay of Bengal in the early hours of Tuesday is expected to gain strength and trigger widespread and heavy rain this week, especially along the Tamil Nadu coast.
The Regional Meteorological Center has issued a red alert for four districts – Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore and Mayiladuthurai – indicating extremely heavy rainfall of over 21 cm on Wednesday. Orange and yellow alerts have been issued for various parts of the state till October 24 as weather systems over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea continue to feed moisture into the region.
