Australia v England cricket day 2 scores, results, wickets, teams, time, schedule, how to watch
Brendon McCullum’s Bazballers can smell the fear in Australia’s dressing room after the physical and psychological trauma inflicted on the home team by the five-pace pace cartel on a frantic first day of the Ashes.
Twelve years after Mitchell Johnson terrorized an aging England team, Australia’s veterans group faces a similarly terrifying test against one of the fastest battalions the old enemy has sent to these shores in decades.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan even called for Australia to send an Ashes SOS to Mitchell Marsh after the home team crumbled under a furious attack.
Ben Stokes took five wickets, taking advantage of the ferocity of Jofra Archer, who along with Mark Wood broke the 150 km/h barrier. According to data analyst CricViz, England’s average speed of 141 km/h is the fastest they have achieved in a Test since records began in 2006. This is a pace rarely seen in the Sheffield Shield ranks.

Steve Smith’s men were left shocked and on their knees at mid-day after an almost unbelievable 19 wickets fell from a position of control onto the spicy Optus Stadium deck. Not since 1909 in Manchester have so many wickets taken a tumble on the first day of the Ashes Test.

Brydon Carse can sense the unease among Australians on Ashe’s debut.
“I thought we were pretty ruthless as a group of Marines,” Carse said. “I think we bounce off each other. I think when you have Mark Wood and Jofra in your squad, it’s always nice to have bowlers. “There was pace and bounce throughout the wicket and the day.
“I don’t think we even really noticed it. It was probably more disturbing to Australians.”
