India, Japan Sign Landmark Security Declaration To Strengthen Defence, Indo-Pacific Cooperation | India News

Tokyo: India and Japan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday 15th-year-old India-Japanese Summit to visit Tokyo during the visit to a new level of security cooperation by signing a joint declaration. The Declaration aims to strengthen defense and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, where both countries are vital for security and economic growth. It offers a new framework for the two countries to work together on today’s challenges from sea security to cyber threats.

According to this agreement, India and Japan will expand military cooperation with more common exercises, including the three powers, Army, Navy and Air Force. The two sides also agreed to share defense technology and discover the possibilities of joint equipment. Deniz cooperation will be scaled with more powerful actions against more ship visit, coordination to keep seaways safe, and more powerful actions against piracy and other crimes in the sea. The pact is also beyond traditional defense issues. It includes closer cooperation in areas such as fighting terrorism, disaster assistance, cyber security, defense research and even cooperation on critical minerals required for modern industries. Both countries have committed to sharing information about new and developing security risks.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) said that the common statement aims to investigate the opportunities of cooperating in the niche areas of each other’s priorities such as fighting terrorism, peace protection operations and cyber defense, including the evaluations of the security risks that arise. Mea described the agreement as a reflection of a “new scene” in partnership with India-Japan, and said that it was compatible with a free, open and peaceful Indo-Pacific vision.

The agreement also talks about the regular dialogue between the national security consultants of the two countries and provides deeper, long -term cooperation. The Joint Declaration of Security Cooperation is among the main results of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Japan. Explaining the importance of the declaration, Foreign Minister Vikram Misri said that both countries provided an activating framework for more effective response to contemporary security challenges.

“An important feature of this document is the concept of a wide range of security, which includes closer cooperation on security problems in cyber security, fighting terrorism, defense industry, research and development and multilateral security problems.

This is the first visit of PM Modi to Japan since May 2023. In the early hours of today, a ceremonial guards were given in Tokyo. India and Japan raised their relations with a special strategic and global partnership ten years ago, and the new declaration further reinforces this bond.
Following his engines in Tokyo, the Prime Minister will go to Tianjin, China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, which was planned later this week.
