Arne Slot Says Liverpool Can Still Do ‘Special Things’

London: Liverpool manager Arne Slot insists the English champions can still do “special things” this season as they prepare to face Premier League leaders Arsenal after a faltering start to their title defence.

Slot’s men travel to the Emirates for Thursday’s clash in fourth place in the standings, but are 14 points behind the Gunners.

However, Liverpool, which has suffered nine defeats in 12 matches in all competitions, is undefeated in its last nine matches; However, this series also includes four draws.

Those draws include a goalless draw against Leeds and a 2-2 share of the spoils with Fulham in the first two Premier League matches of 2026.

Slot said in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday: “We are nine games unbeaten but two draws were definitely too many.”

The Dutchman, who led Liverpool to an impressive title victory in his first season at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp, added: “Where are we? I think the answer to that question is that I have said many times that we are not where we want to be, but I think we have a very talented squad.

“If everyone is available and ready, then I think we can do something special.”

They certainly gave that impression earlier in the season when Liverpool beat Arsenal 1-0 at Anfield in August.

“I think we’ve shown that this season too because we’ve had quite a few impressive wins, but we’ve also had some unimpressive draws and defeats,” Slot said.

“We don’t have the consistency but we’ve already beaten some very good teams so that shows you the talent is definitely there but the consistency is not.”

These impressive victories included home successes against Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid and a 5-1 defeat away to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League.

However, on the other hand, they suffered three three-goal defeats at home this season against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and PSV Eindhoven.
