Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand’s visit to India is aimed at reviving India-Canada bilateral relations, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said. Randhir Jaiswal, the ministry’s official spokesperson, stated that the visit aims to deepen partnerships in many areas, including economic cooperation, strategic dialogue and people-to-people ties. Canadian Foreign Minister Anand arrived in New Delhi on Sunday on an official visit. During his visit, he will meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Union Minister Piyush Goyal. In the statement made by the Canadian government, it was stated that Anand will pay a diplomatic visit to India, Singapore and China between October 12 and October 17 in order to advance bilateral relations and cooperation with these countries within the scope of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy. Meetings with various leaders will focus on developing a framework for strategic cooperation covering trade diversification, energy transition and security issues.
The government statement also said that besides Delhi, Anand will travel to Mumbai to connect with Canadian and Indian businesses that promote investment, job creation and economic opportunities in both Canada and India. Anand will meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan in Singapore to strengthen cooperation with one of Canada’s most important partners in Southeast Asia. This meeting took place as Canada and Singapore celebrated the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations. According to the Canadian government, Anand will highlight the progress made by Canada and ASEAN member states towards a free trade agreement and underline the importance of efforts to conclude negotiations as soon as possible in 2026.
