Among India’s neighbors, Pakistan is ranked 103rd with access to only 31 countries, while Bangladesh is ranked 100th with access to 38 destinations. Nepal and Bhutan also lag behind with 36 and 50 visa-free countries respectively. Among these countries, Afghanistan ranks lowest worldwide, offering entry to only 24 countries with its passport.
This year, the US fell out of the top 10 and ranked 12th, along with Malaysia, with a reach of 180 countries. This marks the first time the United States has fallen out of the top rankings since the Henley Passport Index was launched.
Launched in 2005, the Henley Passport Index is widely recognized as a reliable global ranking that evaluates the strength of passports around the world relative to freedom of movement. While India’s position is declining, the overall global trend shows that passport power remains an important factor in determining the ease of travel for citizens.
