Telugu Chargesheet Sets New Precedent

Hyderabad: In a landmark change in the history of policing of Telugu states, Dundigal police on Wednesday filed a chargesheet in local language Telugu, marking the first time such a switch has been made in Telangana.
The initiative was spearheaded by head woman police officer N. Swaroopa, who drafted and prepared charge sheets entirely in the native language in two separate cases. Traditionally, legal and police documents in the state have been recorded in English or Urdu, marking a major step towards making the judicial process more accessible to ordinary citizens.
State DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy and Cyberabad police commissioner M. Ramesh praised the police chief for his pioneering efforts. Senior officials noted that using the local language helps complainants and defendants better understand certain accusations and legal proceedings without the need for complex translations.
Dundigal police district officials congratulated Swaroopa, saying her initiative had set a new precedent for police stations across the state. Police sources explained that this move is expected to be repeated in other wings of the ministry in order to provide transparency and ease of language to the public.
