India’s infant mortality rate touches low of 25, down from 40 in 2013

According to the 2023 sample registration system report published by the Indian registration company, infant mortality rate (IMR) in the country had a sharp decrease of 37.5% from 40 in 2013.
IMR is an important public health indicator defined as the death number of children per 1000 live births below one year – the lower the number, the better the accessibility of health.

According to the SRS 2023 report, which took into account the 2023 data, IMR decreased from 129% to 80% in 1971. Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh reported the highest IMR levels in the country in 37.

“The birth rate at all Indian levels fell significantly to 18.4 in 1971 in the last five years. In the last five years, the rural-sectual differential has shrinked in these years. However, the birth rate in the last five years has continued to be higher in rural areas.” He said.
