Shirley Ballas says ‘everything hurts’ as she shares a health update after a scary fall where she hit her head

Shirley Ballas said she was ‘very lucky’ as she gave a health update on Instagram on Sunday after suffering a devastating fall earlier this week.
The Strictly Come Dancing judge, 65, told her followers on Saturday that she fell backwards and hit her head on the glass dressing table, requiring her to go to hospital for a precautionary brain scan.
Now in a new update, Shirley has shared a video of herself explaining that she was ‘lucky it hit me in the head’ as she headed to a physiotherapy appointment.
The BBC star said she ‘hurts everywhere’ after injuring her spine, neck and lower back in a fall and now needs to rest for the next three days.
She said: ‘On my way to see my physiotherapist John after this head/neck incident. Spine, neck, waist, ankle everything hurts.
‘He’ll check my spine and make sure it’s okay, then go home and rest for another day, forced to rest, can you believe it?

‘Anyway, I’m just trying to make things work and I’m grateful to the nurses, doctors and friends who helped me with everything.
‘I feel much better in my head today, I’m grateful and I need more rest which one doesn’t always do as we are running around all the time.
‘And never sit on a stool with a cushion, I sat on a small cushion and slipped off it.’
In the second video after her appointment, Shirley added: ‘I just saw my osteopath John Harris and he was so helpful.
‘I also said I was very lucky to get my head shot, it was a good piece of work, I didn’t have it anywhere else but I’m so grateful to him for re-arranging and re-adjusting it.
‘I need to take it easy for 72 hours and hopefully it will be as good as the rain, my knee, my ankle and the rest of my spine and it’s all because of the way I twisted when I fell.
‘So she looked at this and said within 72 hours I should feel like a new woman. Anyway, thank you again for all your messages.’
Shirley revealed she suffered a devastating fall just hours after posting a racy lingerie photo on Saturday.

The BBC star told her followers on Saturday that she had suffered a devastating fall and had a brain scan.
She wrote: ‘Thank you to everyone who reached out to see how I was doing. I fell backwards terribly, hitting my head on the glass dressing table. Going to the hospital to get a brain scan.
‘Fortunately, there is no crack in my skull. I will rest for a few days to recover my neck and back.
‘Love, thank you to @barabara_mccoll for booking my emergency appointment and to Sammy Stopford for picking me up and sitting with me all day. I’m grateful that the doctor said I was very lucky.’
This comes after Shirley confirmed she had recently returned to the dating scene and was “looking for someone smart”.
“I might have had a date or two,” admitted the Strictly head judge, who gave up on romance after splitting from boyfriend Danny Taylor a year ago and focused on looking after her mother Audrey, 88.
But now he is open to the possibilities again and adds: ‘I know my truth. I know my true self and if I want to go on a date I will. It’s no big deal. ‘No labels, no labels.’
But any given date will have to wait a few weeks as Shirley is about to embark on a Strictly live arena tour for 30 shows across the country with celebrities, pros and more from the last series, playing to packed houses of more than 10,000 people and recreating the competition with the potential for a new winner every night.
‘I love meeting crowds,’ he said. ‘I feel like I need to give as much time as I can to the people who come to see us and make them feel special, because without them we wouldn’t have a show like we do.’
But between teaching, making decisions and sharing a house with Audrey in south-east London, Shirley found time for a little dating.
‘I’ve met many wonderful people over the years. If someone asks me out and I like them, I’ll go. If I don’t, I don’t bother. I’m very careful when I’m dating someone. I’ll have known them for a while.’
This comes after Shirley confirmed she was back on the dating scene and going on ‘a date or two’ after splitting from boyfriend Danny Taylor over a year ago.
Shirley met Danny while working on the same pantomime in 2016, but confirmed their relationship had ended last year.
Shirley’s first husband was ballroom dancer Sammy Stopford, to whom she was married for four years in the 80s.
She later married her dance partner Corky Ballas in 1985, and together they won several major dance championships before separating in 2007.
She joined Strictly as head judge in 2017, immediately winning over viewers with her expert knowledge, exacting standards and Scouse warmth, and met Danny in the pantomime the following year.
They broke up in late 2024, so what is he doing now?
‘Humor. ‘I like someone with some intelligence.’ Also generosity. ‘I’ve always been the one paying for everyone, so it’s actually quite nice when they say, ‘No, I’ve got this.’ “Oh, that’s nice,” I think. A smart, well-groomed person takes care of himself. ‘I like that kind of guy.’
This guy will date someone who describes himself as a really very organized person.
‘I drink juice throughout the day and only eat one meal. I’m the thinnest I’ve been since 2017. I do hotpod yoga every day and if I can’t do it I get very upset. “This is my shelter,” he said.
‘ I go to the gym whenever I get the chance. If it’s green and grows in the ground, I like to eat it. This doesn’t mean I won’t cheat. These are rules for me, not for anyone else.’
