Is the ‘blue screen of death’ returning?

This isn’t the first time an outage of Microsoft services has affected airports. In July 2024, a severe outage in Microsoft’s cloud service Azure caused by an update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike wreaked havoc across a wide range of industries globally as well as in India.

The outage led companies to switch to manual processes and, in some cases, services to be canceled as devices running Windows operating systems crashed and millions of users watched the so-called ‘blue screen of death’.

The outage lasted for hours and disrupted land transportation systems, flights, banking transactions, stock exchanges, brokerage firms, hospitals, automotive companies and systems using Microsoft services globally.
