On Sunday, April 5, 2026, Thirumavalavan said there was no room for ‘hate politics’ in Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry and instilled confidence that the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) will achieve a resounding victory in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Addressing a press conference in Puducherry, Mr. Thirumavalavan said the DMK government had implemented a series of welfare-oriented schemes in the last five years and the people wanted the government to continue. “No matter how much promises the BJP makes, people will teach them a lesson and SPA will ensure victory in both Tamil Nadu and Puducherry,” he said.

Although the Left parties in Puducherry have not been allotted seats to contest the elections, this will not affect the future of the alliance. The alliance was solid and the Left parties had increased their support.

VCK had announced Oulgaret, Oussudu (SC), Nettapakkam (SC) and Yanam candidates in the UT due to delay in seat-sharing talks. However, after talks by senior Congress leaders, Oulgaret’s seat was confirmed to the VCK. “We have decided to campaign for the alliance’s candidates in the other three constituencies,” he said.

Tamil Nadu Governor (in-charge) Rajendra Vishwanath said Arlekar’s participation in an event organized by RSS-BJP in Tamil Nadu violated the Model Code of Conduct. “We have sent a complaint to the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu and the Chief Election Commissioner of India demanding replacement of the Governor,” he said.
