CM Stalin Wonders If India Was Sliding Towards Dictatorship

Chennai: Prime Minister MK Stalin, wondering if India was slipping towards dictatorship, raised a red flag over the looming ‘danger of delimitation’ and warned the Union Government not to turn ‘a gentle breeze into a storm in the South’.

Asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi a series of questions regarding the delimitation process on Wednesday, Stalin in his X message asked why the Union BJP government has kept the entire delimitation process secret without transparently explaining how it plans to carry it out.

He wanted to know what was Modi’s reaction to his demand that the southern states follow the footsteps of former Prime Minister AB Vajpayee, who delayed delimitation by 25 years in 2001, and what was the urgent need to hold a special session of Parliament in the middle of elections in five states.

Stalin said that the rightful opinion of the opposition leaders that the special session should be held only after April 29 was ignored and that extremely important constitutional changes were tried to be made without a consultation meeting with the participation of all parties.

DMK said that it will not stand idle by watching the Union BJP government undermine the rights of southern states and empower the north as this is about the future of the people living in the south, it will not accept any decision taken in this regard without their consent and even without talking to them about it no matter what.

He warned that the Union Government’s move to bring the change without calling a meeting of all parties and hastily convening the session of Parliament without waiting for the State elections to end indicates that the country is drifting towards dictatorship.
