VCK under compulsion to consider local candidates, says Thirumavalavan

VCK) chairman Thol. Thirumavalavan.

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. On Saturday, Thirumavalavan said he had to consider candidates from constituencies allotted to the party as the seat allocation would be less than 10. Addressing party members through a virtual meeting, he said, “This is an important issue. We must field local candidates.”

Mr. Thirumavalavan also recalled Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (DMK) view that the party lost in Arakkonam and Vanur constituencies because its candidates were outsiders. “But the irony is that all six candidates were outsiders and four of them won. We lost narrowly in two constituencies,” he said, asking party members not to create any pressure and allow him to choose candidates independently.

He also stated that the Communist parties left the task of sending their candidate lists to the regional committees, and that the State committee would finalize the list. Mr. Thirumavalavan added that when VCK became part of the People’s Welfare Front (PWF), it was able to field as many as 25 candidates.
