Inside the spoiled lives of Venezuela’s Narco Nepo babies: An 800 kilo coke bust, topless scandal, $300K wedding… and one appalling whiskey-fueled rant

The nephews of Venezuela’s First Lady must have liked it Scarface.

In the early 2010s, they cruised around Caracas in Ferraris, clad in diamonds, and rampaged around nightclubs where the champagne flowed freely.

They also had their eye on Tony Montana’s job, and they certainly had the right connections.

What was missing was the brain.

In November 2015, the duo was arrested in Haiti after trying to recruit Drug Enforcement Administration informants for a foolish $50 million scheme to smuggle 800 kilos of cocaine into the United States.

“They looked like they came from the central cadre,” said one of the US officials who was present when 30-year-old Efrain Campos Flores and 31-year-old Francisco Flores de Freitas were arrested.

The two were ‘overdressed in designer clothes; trying to show off their wealth ostentatiously; their connections. They were completely out of their depth, he told the Daily Mail. They were amateur, spoiled brats of the elite.

Months of phone taps recording their boasts meant that even their lawyers scrambled to defend them.

‘It’s almost embarrassing,’ said Campos Flores’ lawyer, John Zach. He told a Manhattan courtroom that his client was ‘completely ignorant’ about the drug trade and described the pair as ‘very stupid men’.

Critics of the regime say the ‘Narco Nephews’ and the children of other leaders of the Bolivarian Revolution (nicknamed ‘Bolichicos’) are a living example of Venezuela’s rotten heart after the US captured de facto President Nicolas Maduro earlier this month.

Maria Corina Machado, a source close to the opposition leader, told the Daily Mail that the young people were ‘part of the cartoon villains who steal and plunder from their own people, the American people and pretty much everyone in between’.

The most prominent name at the moment is undoubtedly the son of Nicolas Maduro Guerra, also known as deposed president Nicolasito.

He was accused of cocaine trafficking in New York in 2020, along with his father and stepmother Cilia Flores, and remains at large in Caracas, parading at the National Assembly, where he is a member of parliament.

But his political rise was not unassisted.

‘His father and stepmother hoped he would be positioned for the presidential administration. But they had neither the muscles nor the brains,” a Caracas-based political analyst told the Daily Mail by phone. ‘He’s there because he’s kind of a naive guy, being passed around. He’s just a bad copy of his father.’

As a young man, he played the flute on Venezuela’s highly praised nationwide music program, El Sistema; he even released a Christmas album in 2014. People of PeaceHe plays the flute along with other regime-friendly musicians.

But he did not manage to make a career on this subject.

The young prince graduated with a degree in economics from the Universidad Nacional Experimental Politecnica de la Fuerza Armada Nacional (UNEFA) in July 2015, but it was well known that his qualification was a joke.

“He’s not a smart guy, I don’t need to tell you that because everyone knows it,” one academic told the Daily Mail. ‘Other students in the same semester and in the same course said that they did not go to classes. When he needed to give a presentation, he used another man to speak on his behalf. There’s nothing in your brain.’

That didn’t stop his father from appointing his then-22-year-old son in 2013 to head the Association of Presidential Inspectors, a newly created position where Nicolasito oversees the provincial bureaucracy. A year later, he became director of the National Cinema School, despite having no relevant experience.

In 2017, he was widely mocked for declaring that “if Trump dares to carry out his threat to intervene militarily in Venezuela, the weapons will reach New York and occupy the White House,” believing the US president resides in Manhattan.

Regardless, his father concluded that he was still a knowledgeable international diplomat.

Two years later, he was sent to Nepal and then North Korea to wildly applaud the exaltation of the 42-year-old Supreme Leader.

The visit earned him another nickname, a reference to his princely status: Tropical Kim Jong-Un.

What he was good at was partying.

In March 2015, she attended the wedding of Syrian-Venezuelan businessman Jose Zalt and was caught on camera throwing wads of dollars into the air at the Gran Melia hotel in Caracas.

Other guests, as always, showered the bride and groom with nearly worthless Venezuelan banknotes; This reportedly prompted Nicolasito to open his wallet and shower the stunned crowd with $100 bills.

Nicolasito appears to have received his economics degree from his father in July 2015. The qualification, obtained from the Universidad Nacional Experimental Politecnica de la Fuerza Armada Nacional (UNEFA) in July 2015, is widely regarded as a 'joke'

He celebrated his 30th birthday during the pandemic with a raucous gathering that wreaked havoc on the Los Naranjos area for 24 hours; The very day his father ordered the ‘radical quarantine’.

When neighbors reported blatant violations of COVID protocols, local police chief Javier Gorriño wrote to X that he could not stop it because President Maduro himself was there. Gorriño was arrested at his home two days later by military intelligence officers.

Nicolasito’s fondness for festivities is shared by his fellow ‘Bolichicos’; especially the child of defense minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez, who currently has a $15 million bounty on his head paid by the United States for his capture.

Both son Mitchell and daughter Yarazetd studied and partied in Madrid; here his activities were captured by Spanish tabloids.

In May 2018, Mitchell, then 24, was seen lounging on the red velvet couches of Casa Suecia nightclub, one of her frequent haunts.

The following March, Senator Marco Rubio called on Spain to revoke his visa.

‘While people in Venezuela go without food, drink dirty water and die from lack of dialysis, media outlet @ABC_gente catches the son of #MaduroRegime army commander @vladimirpadrino partying in Madrid using ecstasy pills,’ he wrote.

In 2017, Mitchell’s sister, then 21, caused even more excitement by allegedly flashing her breast while laughing in a Madrid bar: Photos of Yarazetd allegedly topless with two friends spread like wildfire on social media.

Rumors spread around the house that opposition protesters who had confronted government forces with homemade shields cut from oil barrels had covered the metal with a picture of Yarazetd’s bare breasts.

He angered observers once again this fall; this time with bachelorette parties; Posing in a veil during a Peloton class and being showered with confetti in a luxury home.

Invitations to both the couple’s official ceremony at the Topotepuy botanical gardens in Caracas on September 6 and their four-day celebration in October in Canaima National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site, were leaked online.

Veteran US diplomat and policy expert Marshall Billingsea, who was Donald Trump’s deputy secretary for terrorist financing, claimed the celebrations cost $300,000.

He wrote to X: ‘Frankly, being a cartel boss is a good thing. On October 4, Vladimir Padrino Lopez is organizing a lavish wedding for his daughter in Canaima. The wedding will easily cost $300,000. (His annual salary as Minister of Defense is $12,000.) Meanwhile, 5.1 million Venezuelans are starving.’

Equally high-profile are the three children of Diosdado Cabello, the feared interior minister, who currently has a $25 million bounty on his head: daughter Daniela and sons Tito and David.

David’s drunken, whiskey-flaunting antics went viral in 2019; Meanwhile, his father was leading a brutal crackdown on an attempt to overthrow the regime. As David stared sleepily into the camera at a party, he mocked those suffering widespread power outages, dismissively calling them ‘rats’.

Tito, a robotics engineer, is less well-known but is often photographed with his family.

And their sister, 33, is more subtle than David but just as sassy.

A source told the Daily Mail how in 2014 he flew to Paris on a private jet for a weekend to buy a new book for classes at the Central University of Venezuela.

‘We were studying the French thinker Jacques Attali on Friday, and on Monday he came to class with his new book, which is not available outside France,’ said the class source.

Other students viewed their dazzling fellow student as sharp and talented but also intimidating. The nine armed men who joined him in the classroom did little to assuage his concerns.

She began dating pop star Omar Acedo (they married in December 2019) and those who said she lost interest in her work said she instead dabbled in music, modeling and social media.

He currently works for Venezuelan trade promotion board Marca Pais; It’s a job that takes her all over the world and sees her showing off her fabulous lifestyle on Instagram.

Given the bounty on their parents’ heads, are they now planning their own exit?

In 2019, as opposition leader Juan Guaido was trying to oust Maduro, Venezuelan media said Cabello had taken her children to Beijing to keep them safe. Could the same thing happen again? Certainly families are believed to have stashed away millions in remote bank accounts for years.

“Everyone in the government has an escape plan,” the Caracas-based analyst told the Daily Mail. ‘But I think the kids don’t want to go because they are so used to two things. First, our tropical weather. The second is money and fame.’

A former diplomat told the Daily Mail they suspected the children were staying close to their parents’ skirts for now: the regime’s flight abroad would be a sign of imminent defeat.
