Instagram won’t let teens under 16 create accounts

Meta is investigating why Instagram isn’t allowing some users to create accounts for people under 16, and says it hasn’t yet blocked users or tested the ability weeks before Australia’s social media ban on teenagers came into effect.

On Wednesday, some users who tried to open a new Instagram account with a date of birth after November 19, 2009 were shown a simple warning: “We couldn’t create an account for you.”

However, when you tried to create an account with your date of birth on or before November 19, 2009, such a problem did not occur.
