Chocolate Bar Recall Expands amid Risk of Fatal Infections Due to Possible Contamination

A nationwide chocolate recall has been expanded due to the risk of “fatal infection”.

Spring & Mulberry announced on January 14 Press release – It was shared on the website of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that they have expanded the voluntary recall of Mint Leaf chocolate products to include additional flavors due to possible contamination with Salmonella.

The affected products have been available for purchase online and through select retailers nationwide since September 15, 2025. The recalled products can be identified by the Spring & Mulberry brand as well as flavor name, batch code and box color.

The lot code is printed on the back of the chocolate packaging and inner flow packaging.

The flavors and batches affected are:

Mango Pepper (#025283)

Mixed Berry (#025275, #025281, #025337)
Mulberry Fennel (#025345)

Salmonella can cause “serious and sometimes fatal infections” in young children, the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions or compromised immune systems, according to the statement. Symptoms of Salmonella infection include watery diarrhea (may contain blood or mucus), stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Symptoms usually begin six hours to six days after infection and usually last four to seven days.

The CDC said that in rare cases, Salmonella infection “may spread to the urine, blood, bones, joints, brain, or other internal organs, causing symptoms related to that body part or system.”

Spring & Mulberry said no confirmed illnesses or adverse health effects have been reported. The Raleigh, N.C.-based company was first alerted to the potential for contamination after a contract manufacturer conducted routine third-party testing and was found to have tested positive for Salmonella in the finished product.

Customers who purchased the affected batches are advised to discard the chocolate immediately and not consume it. Customers may request a refund or replacement product by emailing Spring & Mulberry at recalls@springandmulberry.com and providing a photo of the lot code.
