Investigators swarm Nancy Guthrie’s house after new letter is sent to TV station hours after first ransom deadline passed

An FBI forensics team raided the home of missing Nancy Guthrie, just 20 minutes after a new ‘ransom note’ emerged.

Aerial photographs taken by the Daily Mail show the team unpacking their belongings in front of the house shortly after media were ordered back from the property.

The scene was secured by multiple truckloads of deputies from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, which until recently handled the investigation. In addition to the coroner, three more cars with more investigators were on the scene.

Nancy, 84, has been missing for six days and has not been seen since the evening of January 31, when she was brought home after spending the evening with her daughter Annie, 56, and son-in-law Tommaso Cioni, 50.

The latest message was sent to Tucson-area news outlet KOLD Friday morning. The outlet previously reported that, like TMZ, it was sent a ‘ransom letter’ on Tuesday. Authorities have not confirmed the legitimacy of the letters.

The message was emailed to the station at 11:45 local time and used a different IP address than the previous ‘ransom’ message, but appeared to use ‘the same type of secure server to hide real IP addresses’. KOLD in question.

Officials urged the public to continue to stay informed. A $50,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the return of the 84-year-old or the arrest of anyone involved in his disappearance.

Nancy was reported missing Sunday morning, and investigators said evidence from her home showed she had been abducted overnight.

Authorities descended on Nancy Guthrie’s home again after authorities said they were ‘aware of a new message’ sent to a local news station as they continued to search for the 84-year-old.

The latest message comes after Derrick Callella, who lives in California, was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly texted Nancy’s daughter Annie and son-in-law Tommaso Cioni about the fake ransom plan.

Callella allegedly admitted to sending the messages to take advantage of the confusion around Nancy’s kidnapping and possible ransom demands, telling investigators she was ‘just trying to see if the family would respond.’

The messages Callella sent to the Guthrie family are believed to be separate from the messages sent to TMZ and KOLD this week; One of them reportedly set a deadline of 5pm on Thursday for the payment of millions of Bitcoins.

TMZ reported that a secondary, ‘more serious’ deadline was also set for Monday.

While the search for Nancy has continued for more than five days, investigators admitted at a press conference Thursday that they do not have any suspects or persons of interest in the case.

Evidence recovered from Nancy’s home included an apparent removal of the doorbell camera and traces of blood extending from her door to the driveway; officials announced at the press conference that it was confirmed to be Nancy’s blood.

On Friday, retired FBI investigator James Gagliano said the ransom notes could be a breaking point in the case because of the lack of forensic evidence pointing to the suspect.

Authorities said Nancy, 84, was underweight, had poor mobility and suffered from a heart condition that required her to take medication every day.

Authorities have previously said they had no reason to believe Nancy may have been targeted because of her daughter, but did not rule out any further investigation. Savannah Guthrie reportedly earned a salary of $8 million at NBC, and her net worth is estimated to be around $40 million

‘Kidnappings happen for one of two reasons: either for profit or for revenge,’ crisis negotiation expert Gagliano told Fox & Friends on Friday morning.

He highlighted that high-profile individuals have been targets of kidnappings for decades, including Frank Sinatra Jr. and newspaper heiress Patty Hearst.

However, Gagliano explained that Guthrie’s kidnapping was “surprising and deceptive” because it “did not line up with any of the traditional types of kidnapping.”

‘We still don’t know if this was a targeted attack, whether it was a targeted kidnapping,’ he continued, mentioning that his alleged captors had contacted the Guthrie family in a ‘very strange’ way.

Gagliano added that it was unusual for someone who had hijacked the ransom note to deliver the ransom note, rather than delivering the ransom note directly to the victim’s family.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos announced at a news conference Thursday that the doorbell camera was disconnected in the middle of the night around the time Nancy Guthrie went missing.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Friday that investigators were disappointed to discover they were unable to obtain any footage from Nancy’s doorbell camera before she was removed.

Investigators discovered that the home’s doorbell camera was disconnected early Sunday and software data recorded movement in the home minutes later. However, since Nancy Guthrie did not have an active subscription, none of the images could be recovered.

“It’s concerning, in fact it’s almost disappointing because you’re hopeful,” Sheriff Nanos told The Associated Press.

‘Okay, they got an image. ‘Well, we do, but we don’t.’

Nanos said that although the delay was frustrating, investigators did not give up trying to obtain footage from the home.

‘If only technology were as easy as we think, here’s a picture, here’s your bad guy. But it’s not like that,’ Nanos continued.

“We’re getting information coming from these technology groups that say, ‘This is what we have and we can’t get it anymore.'”

Concern is growing about Nancy Guthrie’s condition as officials say she needs daily medications that are vital to her health. He was said to have a pacemaker and was dealing with high blood pressure and heart problems, according to the sheriff’s audio recording on Broadify.com.

‘I guess their situation is getting worse day by day,’ Nanos said. ‘He needs to take medication. And I have no way of knowing whether they gave him that drug or not.’
