Investment in AI to create thousands of new jobs – Government

The government has announced plans to create thousands of new jobs through AI-related investment.
Regions such as Wales, Bristol and London will benefit, with ministers promising new opportunities for AI firms to grow.
The initiative involves a new AI growth zone in South Wales, supported by companies such as Vantage Data Centers and Microsoft, which will create more than 5,000 new jobs over the next decade, including at the former Ford motor plant in Bridgend.
The government has said scientists will be supported to use AI with up to £137 million aimed at making breakthrough discoveries and developing new medicines, treatments and treatments.
Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, Liz Kendall, said: “We are announcing a package of measures that will enable us to capture jobs and growth opportunities in every part of the country.
“Today’s support from international investors is a vote of confidence in the UK and we are determined to do more to ensure we support British businesses, workers and researchers to capitalize on the opportunities brought by artificial intelligence.
“This is about bringing jobs, opportunity and hope to the people and places that need it most and delivering on our promise of change.”
Chancellor Rachel Reeves said: “This Government promised to unlock growth and that is exactly what we are doing.
“Today’s approval of our fourth AI growth zone is our plan for action change – creating thousands of jobs and unlocking new investments in industries of the future for local communities, strengthening our position as Europe’s leading technology sector.”
Jo Stevens, Secretary of State for Wales, said: “Wales will now have two brand new AI growth zones that will bring thousands of jobs to both North and South Wales and support economic growth across the country.
“South Wales is already home to a growing technology industry and this major investment in the region will help cement the UK’s position as a global leader in artificial intelligence.”
