Kalvakuntla Kavitha’s political outfit ‘Telangana Rashtra Sena (TRS)’ may face legal hurdles due to the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) strict norms on party names resembling existing or former political parties.
This assumes importance in the backdrop of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) transforming into Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in 2022. Although the TRS terminology is not officially in use, it continues to have strong political recall among voters in Telangana. Sources said the Election Commission of India (ECI) is examining the “voter confusion” aspect while approving party names, examining phonetic similarity, visual similarity and use of common abbreviations.
