Thousands of homes at risk of damp and mould over botched insulation, government confirms

As the government warns “systemic” installation failures, it can cause serious health problems of tens of thousands of hosts equipped with wall insulation placed under a popular plan.

Solid wall insulation has been presented under two state -supported years for the last few years and allowed landlords to make their homes more efficiently more efficient.

However, the “majority” of the insulation given under these plans “is not established at the appropriate standard,” he said.

In a statement to Commons, the Minister of Energy consumers added: “The government wants to encourage everyone to participate in these controls, even if they do not think that there is something wrong in their installation to plan a control.

“Our priority continues to ensure that weak installations are free of charge and corrected to the consumer.”

Most importantly, the problem will not have to pay to solve the problem. The installations must prove that they perform properly with Trustmark, the independent organ that controls the tradesmen working in the houses.

For anyone who has stopped trade, a warranty must cover the cost of subtracting up to £ 20,000.

Botlu insulation was established under two initiatives: ‘Energy Company Obligation 4 (ECO4)’ and ‘Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)’. It was launched by the government in April 2022 and May 2023, respectively.

These plans enabled appropriate households to apply for free energy efficiency, including energy suppliers or local councils.

Solid walls are most common in features built before the 1920s. There are no gaps or gaps, and insulation involves adding materials inside or out of the heat to capture heat.

However, a report published by Trustmark in January pointed out the “important examples of the installations below the required standards.

Workers' Minister Miatta Fahnbulleh said the “majority of the insulation established under two government -backed plans, not“ appropriate standard ”.

Since the findings appeared, Ofgem has written to 60,000 households, which were understood to be insulated under two plans.

Ms. Fahnbulleh, “thousands of households are already under field controls”, “Trustmark made by the first inspections defined by 90 percent of the bad quality installations are corrected,” he added.
