IOC: No decision over ban on transgender women from all sports

Despite the IOC statement, the likely outcome is that such a ban will be imposed.

Last week, an update was provided to members by the organization’s medical and scientific director, with details of the potential move being worked out.

Coventry told BBC Sport in June that the IOC should “play a leading role” in discussions in this area.

He announced at the time that a working group consisting of experts on the subject and international federations “will enable us to find consensus.”

In February, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order barring transgender women from competing in women’s categories.

He said the decision would include the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and would deny visas to transgender athletes trying to visit the United States to compete in the Games.
