Iran war breaks UN Charter, strike on school shocking, UN probe says

The United Nations Charter prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.
“These attacks, followed by Iran’s retaliatory attacks on the region, are contrary to the UN Charter,” the UN’s Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Iran said in a statement.
He also expressed deep shock at the attack on the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school in Minab in southern Iran on Saturday, the first day of the US and Israeli attacks.
It was stated that most of the victims were schoolgirls between the ages of 7 and 12.
Earlier Wednesday, a separate UN expert panel said more than 160 children had been killed, citing reports.
The UN investigative inquiry said the Iranian people are now caught between a large-scale military offensive that could last weeks and a government in Tehran with a long history of human rights abuses. Tens of thousands of people were detained and faced torture and the death penalty following a brutal crackdown on protests that began on December 28, 2025, in response to the country’s economic crisis, a UN investigation said.
It was stated that protesters currently detained in prisons may be exposed to the risk of any US-Israeli attack. A British couple imprisoned in Iran described on Tuesday explosions that shook the Evin prison where they were being held, and how their wings were damaged as fighting intensified.
The statement stated that the killing of dozens of Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in US-Israeli airstrikes is not an acceptable way to achieve justice under international law.
