Iranian American lawyer Moj Mahdara called on Democrats to wake up on Sunday in response to the reaction of many members of the party to US and Israeli actions against Iran, saying he was incredibly disappointed in the criticism.
“I think it’s imperative for the Democratic Party to wake up and overcome its discontent with Donald Trump, President Trump, and its feelings about ongoing international conflicts. This is about national security. This is about what’s possible in the Middle East. It’s about being a good neighbor, being a good partner for the Gulf States, and what their desires are,” Mahdara, one of the founders of the Iranian Diaspora Collective, told CNN host Dana Bash during “State of the Union.”
The United States and Israel launched a major joint military operation against Iran on Saturday, known as “Operation Epic Rage.” The attacks left prominent leaders dead, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah. Ali Khamenei.
“When you dismantle and decapitate this regime, you will see a change in the Middle East, in Venezuela, in China, in Ukraine. And frankly I think their ideology has caused a lot of problems for us around the world. We need to take this seriously. And I think we have a huge opportunity at this point. It will be like ending the Soviet Union, ending the Berlin Wall.”

However, Democrat Mahdara said that he does not see himself in the Democratic Party at the moment due to the party’s reaction.
“This is a transformational moment for humanity and security, and it’s in our interest as an American, as an American, to see it through. So I’m a Democrat, I’ve been a great Democrat. I’m incredibly disappointed in my party. I don’t see myself in them right now,” he added.
Mahdara spoke to “Fox & Friends” about the strikes on Saturday.
“I think the majority of people in Iran wanted the regime gone. I think the majority of people in Iran wanted this regime not to murder 40, or 40,000 of them, and not to imprison them. They were tired of having their resources exploited, their names being used with these proxy words. They were embarrassed and sickened by what they saw in Gaza and Lebanon and what they saw in Yemen. And I think that doesn’t represent the Iranian people,” he said.
He argued that this was the Iranian people’s only chance.
KEANE SAID THE IRAN WAR WAS TURNING INTO A ‘REGIONAL WAR’ AND THE THREE GULF COUNTRIES WERE PREPARING FOR WAR
“Something had to happen. And unfortunately, that’s what happened. In the speech I heard from President Trump last night, frankly, if I’m being frank with you, I’m in my late 40s, I’ve been waiting my whole life for a sitting president to talk about this country like that, because it’s a threat not just to America, but to the entire region. And it’s disrupted the way of life for a lot of people in this region,” he said.
Bash also spoke with Iranian-American journalist and activist Masih Alinejad, who specifically called out New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
“I took to the streets in America yesterday, my sisters. I hugged every single American because my heart broke when I saw Mayor Mamdani’s tweet sympathizing with the Islamic Republic. There is not a single word condemning the massacre,” she said.

“I went to New York and I said, ‘This beautiful city, New York, saved my life.’ New York is my city. I need to hug my people. I need to talk to them. Leftists, righties, Trump supporters, Democrats, they all hugged me. America stands united when it comes to supporting the lives of innocent people. Time [has] Alinejad continued: Come for politicians, Republicans, Democrats to unite for human rights and global security.
X responded directly to Mamdani’s condemnation of US-Israeli attacks on Iran.
