Why Deepti Sharma could be the ‘most in-demand’ player in WPL 2026 auction? Here’s all you need to know

The WPL 2026 auction is scheduled to be held in Delhi on November 27. The former Indian skipper, who is now the chairman of the mega auction, made a bold prediction about Deepti Sharma. Read here to find out what he said.

With the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 mega auction fast approaching, teams are honing their strategies and the focus is on India’s two most bankable talents – all-rounder Deepti Sharma and batsman Harleen Deol.

Discussions on JioHotstar’s exclusive show Most Wanted: WPL 2026 Auction highlighted that both players will be among the most sought-after names when the auction begins.

Emphasizing that Deepti’s versatility has made her one of the most valuable picks in this year’s auction, former India captain Anjum Chopra said: “Gujarat Giants should definitely consider Deepti Sharma in the mega auction. Delhi Capitals could also target her as an Indian player who strengthens both batting and bowling. UP Warriorz could be the third team after Gujarat and Delhi to be interested in getting her services.”

He also expressed surprise at Gujarat Giants’ decision to release Harleen Deol, who has been a consistent performer in the series.

“I am surprised that Gujarat Giants have released Harleen Deol. She is a very talented Indian player who can also bowl a bit and I hope she improves her bowling skills further. She will attract huge interest in the auction. Along with Deepti Sharma, she will be an Indian player that every franchise will target because teams want strong Indian batsmen and potential leadership options,” Chopra added.

Veda Krishnamurthy, who was part of the panel, also echoed Chopra’s views on Deepti’s sky-high valuation going into the mega auction. Praising the all-rounder’s recent form, Veda said, “Deepti Sharma is a proven match winner in the previous WPL seasons, performing brilliantly with both bat and ball. She also won the Player of the Tournament award in the recently concluded Women’s ODI World Cup. Her demand will definitely be high in the mega auction and the entire franchise will be watching her closely.”

With both players entering the auction pool at the peak of their careers, the teams are expected to engage in intense bidding wars. Deepti and Harleen stand out as two of the biggest stories ahead of the auction as strategists look to build strong Indian cores that can shape the team’s title challenge.
