Iran’s Tasnim News Agency trolls Australia over fuel shortage by posting video of Gold Coast service station

Iran is trolling Australia over fuel shortages.
Tasnim News Agency, a Persian-language broadcaster affiliated with Iran’s hard-line Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, rebroadcast a video of a service station on the Gold Coast filled with empty petrol tankers on Tuesday.
“Australia is running out of petrol and diesel,” Tasnim shared on X. “Hundreds of petrol stations across Australia are completely out of petrol and diesel.”
“Hundreds of petrol stations across Australia are completely out of fuel and diesel,” the Energy Minister said. “The country is now preparing for the worst-case scenario: Mad Max: The Beginning.”
The original video was posted on Facebook by pro-Russia digital creator John Goodin, tagging RT, or the Russia-owned propaganda unit formerly known as Russia Today.
One person replied to X: “Mel Gibson could make a real Mad Max sequel. Give it a few months for Australia to descend into chaos.”
Gas stations ran out of fuel
The video was released after Energy Minister Chris Bowen told Parliament that 289 stations in NSW lacked at least one type of fuel and 164 out of 2417 service stations did not have diesel.
In Victoria, 162 of 1627 stations were missing one or more fuel grades. Queensland was less affected, with 44 diesel-free stations and 35 regular unleaded stations out of 1800.
In South Australia, 46 out of 700 stations were missing one or more fuel grades, and in Western Australia only six stations out of 771 reported fuel shortages.
Iran caused a global fuel shortage by blockading the Strait of Hormuz, through which one fifth of the world’s crude oil passes.
The crisis also led the United States to lift sanctions on both Iranian and Russian oil in an effort to increase global supplies.
