Irish import primed for first Australian win at Randwick

The increase in distance will pave the way for an Irish import to claim his first win on Australian soil as he tackles competitive racing at a special meeting at the Kensington circuit at Randwick on Wednesday.
Cap Saint Martin is a typically and sparingly raced Irish four-year-old who is making only the eighth career start since returning to his hometown nearly two years ago.
The son of French Persian King’s outstanding treble group 1 winner Cap Saint Martin has emerged as a hot favorite on his third start at the home of Irish racing The Curragh in late 2024.
The gelding had just three more runs through 2025 and was bolted in a lower-grade handicap at Naas before writing.
It later passed into the hands of Annabel and Rob Archibald of Warwick Farm; these people have had a lot of success with imports from the UK and Ireland in the past.
Given plenty of time to acclimate and two quiet trials, Cap Saint Martin stood out on his first trip to Sydney just a fortnight ago, powering from near last at Benchmark 78 to a place at Warwick Farm over a mile.
Now further ahead and against similar opposition, he is poised to make a big statement and position himself to take Saturday company later in the campaign.
Cap Saint Martin has opened a near $3.40 favorite in the early betting in what appears to be a solid strong form race.
Three-year-old Progressive Without Peer was priced at around $4.50, ahead of the Randwick-based duo Kenmare Bay ($5.50) and Glad You Think So ($6.00).
The Kensington circuit was rated Heavy 9 until Tuesday, but will likely rise to 8 or even move into the Soft 7 range as the weather clears towards race day.
