Ex-Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat escapes unhurt after car meets with accident in Meerut

Senior Congress leader and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat had a narrow escape after his car met with an accident in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday (October 18, 2025), officials said.
Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Raghavendra Mishra said: PTI The accident took place between 7:30 pm and 8 pm on NH-58 near Kharoli while Mr. Rawat’s convoy was on its way from Delhi to Dehradun.
The SP said that a man suddenly came in front of a police escort vehicle and forced it to brake, resulting in the vehicles following him, including the Chief Minister’s car, crashing into each other.
The police accompanying the Congress leader removed Mr. Rawat from the damaged vehicle and put him in another vehicle, after which the convoy proceeded towards Dehradun, the officer said.
Mr Mishra said the former Prime Minister escaped unhurt, while a police officer traveling in the escort vehicle suffered minor injuries.
Local Congress leader Chaudhary Yashpal Singh also said that Mr. Rawat was safe and the quick response of the police averted a major mishap.
