Israel threatens Lebanon ambulances over Hezbollah use

The Israeli military has warned that it may hit ambulances and medical facilities in Lebanon that it says are being used unlawfully by Hezbollah.
“As part of its terrorist activities, Hezbollah uses ambulances extensively for military purposes,” Avichai Adraee, the Israeli army’s Arabic spokesman, told channel X, adding that such use should be stopped immediately.
Adraee said, “If this practice is not stopped, Israel will act in accordance with international law against any military activity carried out by the terrorist organization Hezbollah using these facilities and ambulances.”
A Hezbollah official said the group does not use ambulances and medical facilities for military purposes.

The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request to provide evidence of Hezbollah’s unlawful use of medical facilities or ambulances.
At least 26 medics and first responders have been killed in Israeli attacks since March 2, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
The Israeli military says it is taking measures to reduce harm to civilians.
Iran-backed Hezbollah opened fire on Israel on March 2, saying it was retaliating for the killing of Iran’s religious leader at the beginning of the US-Israeli war against Iran.
Israel has since launched a massive bombing campaign against the powerful Lebanese armed group, killing more than 700 people and displacing hundreds of thousands, while Hezbollah has fired hundreds of rockets at the border.
On Friday, Israeli planes dropped fliers over Beirut threatening to wreak havoc on Lebanon similar to the devastation Israel wreaked on the Gaza Strip during its two-year war with the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
Large parts of the Gaza Strip were reduced to rubble and its population was largely displaced.
An Israeli official told Reuters on Friday that the campaign against Hezbollah will likely intensify and continue even after attacks on Iran end.
Attacks on civilian infrastructure are being discussed by decision-makers, the official said.
Hezbollah leader Naim Kasim said on Friday that his group was ready for a long conflict.
Israel and Lebanon are expected to hold direct talks in the coming days, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported on Saturday, citing two sources with knowledge of the matter.
Haaretz said that US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, will attend the talks to be held in Paris or Cyprus, where the Israeli delegation will be chaired by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s confidant Ron Dermer.
Haaretz said the talks are expected to focus on ending the conflict in Lebanon and disarmament of the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah.
