Antony Price, designer for Bowie and Duran Duran, dies aged 80

Getty ImagesBritish fashion designer Antony Price, responsible for some of the looks preferred by names such as David Bowie, Roxy Music and Queen Camilla, died at the age of 80.
Price was known for her sculptural silhouettes and theatrical styles, including the pastel costumes featured in rock band Duran Duran’s music video Rio.
The group released a statement on social media she remembers him as a “visionary” and a “kind, intelligent and sharp-witted friend.”
Price’s death comes less than a month after singer Lily Allen unveiled her latest collection in London, more than 30 years ago, inspired by the black velvet “revenge dress” worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A year after graduating, he began designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-up trousers worn by Sir Mick Jagger during The Rolling Stones’ Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

Getty ImagesPrice, a long-time collaborator of David Bowie, designed the jacket the singer wore in his 1986 music video As The World Falls Down.
The British Fashion Council said her signature ability to blend men’s and women’s wear, as well as her technical proficiency in styling body-hugging looks, made her “a true original”.
In the 1990s he began working on pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall; including various ensembles for the US tour after achieving this title.
After a career spanning five decades, Price held his final show in London last month, in collaboration with fashion brand 16Arlington.
