A handcuffed sex offender spat on British families as he was being deported from England on a cheap holiday flight to Türkiye.

Holidaymakers who traveled from London to Istanbul with Wizz Air last Wednesday watched the events at Gatwick Airport with astonishment.

The man, who was understood to be a Turkish citizen who was deported after serving his prison sentence in England, was taken from a minibus by officials wearing high-visibility jackets and forced onto the plane.

Dramatic footage shows the detainee struggling violently as he is dragged up the plane’s stairs and behind the Airbus cabin before takeoff. Witnesses said he repeatedly shouted “No, no” as authorities tried to restrain him.

Among those on board were newly engaged couple Kevin Leeson and Dawn Thomas, both 50, from Bristol, who were traveling to Istanbul for a romantic getaway.

Kevin said passengers received no warning before the man was put on the plane, and many only realized what had happened when the minibus arrived next to the plane on the tarmac.

‘It was a terrible experience and very traumatic,’ he told The Sun.

According to Kevin, the detainee continued to scream and resist for approximately 90 minutes after the plane took off, then demanded water and allegedly spat at escort personnel.

It was reported that nearby passengers could not move the seats despite the discomfort, and some families with children remained on the ship throughout this troublesome process.

Kevin claimed a spit hit him in the face, while another orb landed on his fiancée’s couch.

He said paramedics provided tissues and assured him that the detainee’s medical history had been checked.

Officials allegedly secured high-vis jackets to the ceiling area near the back row to prevent further spitting from nearby passengers during the flight.

Kevin added: ‘He was a complete maniac and was attacking the authorities, biting them and spitting at them.’

The couple reportedly paid around £500 for a return flight to Türkiye, where Kevin also planned to have dental treatment during the trip.

He later said the captain apologized for ‘the distress caused to the detainee’ by the plane’s throttling as it landed in Istanbul.

According to the passengers’ statements, the deported person was met by Turkish police after the plane landed.

Kevin said: ‘This is disgusting and there should be other flights for people being deported.’

Foreign criminals can be removed from the UK after serving part of their sentence and are often deported by charter aircraft, although scheduled commercial flights are also used in some cases.

A Wizz Air spokesperson said: ‘We are aware of an incident involving a passenger on flight W9 5729 from London Gatwick to Istanbul on Wednesday 13 May.

‘The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew is our top priority. ‘Our crew followed all relevant procedures throughout the flight and any questions regarding escorted transports or law enforcement activities should be directed to the appropriate authorities.’

A Home Office Spokesperson said: ‘Those who have no right to be in the UK must return home and we will force them to leave if necessary.’

‘Regular scheduled flights are used from time to time to ensure best value for taxpayers.’
