The National Remote Perception Center of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) made a “rapid assessment of the damage caused by the flash floods in the Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi region using very high resolution images from the Cartosat-2s satellite.
“07.08.2025 (after the event) and the current cloud -free event preliminary data (13.06.2024) satellite images comparative analysis, the scope and seriousness of destruction revealed.
The agency said that the findings contain expanded river channels, modified river morphology and human life and infrastructure, and said that it contains flash flood indicators.
“In the merger of the Kheer Gad and the Bhagirathi River, a fan -shaped sediment and debris deposition … The partial/complete destruction and disappearance of several buildings in the region affected by the flood was probably dipped or sweeping by the dense sludge flow and rash.”
The agency said a series of buildings were immersed in mud and debris. “Satellite images will help the ongoing search and rescue operations to reach the stranded individuals and recover the connection to the isolated region. The event emphasizes the increasing fragility of Himalaya settlements to disasters. Scientific analysis is being performed to determine the cause of the triggering event.”
