It Ends With Us author reveals ‘successful’ cancer treatment

Getty ImagesColleen Hoover, author of best-selling books, announced that she started receiving treatment after being diagnosed with cancer.
The 46-year-old American writer, known for his films It Ends With Us and Reminders of Him, said that he had almost finished radiotherapy and that the previous surgery was successful.
He publicly discussed the news in an Instagram post this week with a selfie showing him in a hospital gown.
In another message on Tuesday, she told fans: “I’m doing much better. My cancer diagnosis was made a while ago but I chose to keep it secret until I knew my surgery was successful and what my other treatments would be.”
This comes after she shared the news with her fans in a private Facebook chat about a month ago, telling them the cancer had been eliminated and “I’m fine.”
‘Big and scary’
In a Facebook post to fan group Colleen Hoover’s CoHorts, she revealed that she has been experiencing recurring health problems throughout 2025.
However, while the film adaptation of Reminders of Him was being filmed in Canada, he revealed that he put his concerns aside and did not seek medical advice “until the film was finished.”
When he returned home, he received his cancer diagnosis.
“It felt so big and scary for a while, and I had to miss the You Regret premiere and some other important career and personal moments that I wasn’t ready to share with anyone until I knew what the outcome would be,” she said.
Hoover did not specify what type of cancer he had.
In another Facebook post last week, he said tests showed it was not caused by family genes, the HPV virus or “excessive hormones.”
“This means it is likely environmental/lifestyle related, such as lack of exercise, poor diet, and stress,” he wrote.
“I’m happy and grateful to be alive, but I hate vegetables. I hate having to get off the couch. I hate sweating. I hate when science is right.”
If anyone saw him eating grilled chicken and drinking water at a restaurant, “I’d probably get really mad about it,” he joked.
‘I’m a tramp’
Hoover said this week that the hospital gown selfie was shared on Instagram to thank Texas Oncology, where he was treated, and that he had been open about his diagnosis “for a while.”
Her latest novel, Woman Down (her first novel since 2022), was published this week.
But the author said the cancer update “was not a ploy to gain sympathy-sales for the day of publication.”
Hoover, who has three children and lives in Texas, added that he received radiation treatment in Dallas on Monday morning and later surprised fans at a South Carolina bookstore that hosted a midnight release event for his new novel.
“Not because I lied about anything, but because I was a pain in the ass,” he added.
His other books include It Ends With Us, which has sold more than 20 million copies and was adapted into a film in 2024.
This was in some ways overshadowed by the legal battle between actor-director Justin Baldoni and his co-star in the film, Blake Lively.
