Karnataka rain: 6,664 people rescued, 53 relief centres set up, 85 villages affected in Kalaburagi
The number of villages affected by the overflowing Bhima River in the Kalaburagi region in Karnataka rose to 85 on 28 September. Continuous rainfall and large entrances from neighboring Maharashtra contribute to floods.

Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum, leading to rescue and charity operations, said that 53 aid centers were opened and 6,664 people were rescued.
“Rescue operations covered all the affected taluks-Afzalpur, Jewargi, Kalaburagi, Chittapur, Chinholi, Sedam, Kalagi and Şahabad. A total of 3,050 men, 2,270 women and 1,344 children, food and basic departments have been provided to the centers of relaxation.
Since the rain is predicted in the coming days, Sonna and Bennetora Barrags are expected to increase.

To help rescue operations, a 20 -member NDRF team was deployed in Wadi in Chittapur Taluk, and a SDRF team was deployed in Mannur in Afzalpur Taluk. Police, home guards and fire and emergency services are actively involved in the flood hits and aid operations.

Flooding waters damaged the roads and disrupted transportation, sinking a few bridges. The police instructed to make alternative arrangements to ensure the smooth movement of the vehicles. Continuous rainfall increased the risk of collapse of houses and the inhabitants are asked to remain cautious.

Taranum, “People should not panic. Regional administration is working everyday to ensure the security of citizens,” he said.
Authorities issued strict warnings against entering rivers. Fishing in swimming, risky stunts, laundry, livestock or rivers is strictly prohibited. The inhabitants were advised to avoid bridges, river coasts, temples, mosques and other prayer areas along the river and avoid taking selfies or photographs in dangerous places.

Rural Development and Piyank Khart Minister of Panchayat Raj and Regional Responsible, Prime Minister Siddaramaiah’a flood in the region, he said. Emergency measures are sent to the affected villages and the Prime Minister is expected to visit the earliest region.
