‘This was a tragedy;’ Powerboat Racing Leader speaks after being killed in the accident during the contest
A 20 -year -old man died after a power boat accident in a competition in Springfield.

As reported News Center 7, 11:00Kurt Romberg, Vice President of the American Powerboat Association, said that this is the species of sports families to pass through generation.

The accident took place on Tuesday morning at the Champions Park Lake on Tuesday morning during the 2025 stock, Mod and Junior Nationals Racing event.

“There are literally hundreds of racers from every corner of this country, feeling this pain and a tragedy, Rom Romberg said.
Romberg said it took place in the second heat of the accident.
Romberg said, “On the right side of the racing track, they are called a flying start with a large digital watch, they approach the starting line, and when this clock is counted to zero, the idea will be at maximum speed.”
20 -year -old Treiden Schlieicher lost control of the power boat.
“With the Treiden boat, he had some problems with his boat, and you know, he got confused,” Romberg said.
There was a doctor in the water activity and rescue divers.
“Black Diamond Diver came to him in just a few seconds, did what he could do, brought him, and ambulance men helped him, and tried to stabilize him,” he said.
Medical officials took the man to the Springfield Regional Medical Center and then died.
“He was a good child and was very popular. And I will say once again, you lose a family, and many of our members are looking at this aspect, Rom Romberg said.
After the accident, several temperatures were planned.
“The race committee had to go back to the recovery and there were too many back and forth, are we going on? Are we stopping? What are we doing here? And really, the family said, ‘He will ask you to go to the Treid.’ And so we continued.”
Romberg added that Mercy Health brought a trauma consultant to talk to anyone who needs support.
The Association plans to honor Schlieicher in a race next month.
