Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma vows to restore national side after failure to reach World Cup

While Pio Esposito and Bryan Cristante from Italy missed the penalties, he could not save any of the penalties.
“I cried out of great sadness, along with the entire Azzurri team, of which I am proud to be captain, and I know you national team fans feel it too,” Donnarumma said.
The Manchester City goalkeeper, who made his debut in 2016 at the age of 17, is yet to feature at the World Cup and will have to wait until he is at least 31 for his next opportunity.
He was 15 when Italy lost to Uruguay and were eliminated from the 2014 World Cup in the group stage.
He wrote that it would take “a lot of strength, passion and faith” to return his country to “its rightful place.”
The former Paris St-Germain and AC Milan goalkeeper added: “Always believe – that is the driving force behind progress, because life knows how to reward those who give their all without stepping back.
“This is where we must begin again. Together. Once again.”
