It’s a record 48.9°C summer. The media doesn’t care

While parts of Australia have recorded all-time high temperatures this month, the key global warming limit of 1.5°C is increasingly out of reach. But most of the media doesn’t care anymore.

This is the conclusion from a rough and ready comparison of references to “climate change” in Australian and New Zealand media over the past seven years.

The term “climate change” appeared 1,943 times in January 2019, according to the ProQuest media database, which covers all major national and local titles, including those owned by Fairfax, News Ltd and the ABC.
