Jaguars star’s ‘cancer warrior’ son joins team as honorary captain

The son of Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Josh Hines-Allen was named an honorary captain for the team’s game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

Wesley Hines-Allen was with his father as he and his teammates walked toward midfield to greet Seahawks players before the coin toss. His family announced in July that the 8-year-old boy was struggling with acute promyelocytic leukemia. His treatments were completed in August and he is said to have made a full recovery.

“The honorary captain for this game will be Wesley Allen, cancer warrior and son of Jaguars DE Josh Hines-Allen,” the team said in a press release before the game. “Wesley has been a symbol of strength and determination.

“Her journey inspired her father’s season-long ‘Four One For Hope’ campaign, which provides aid to cancer-focused nonprofits from the nonprofit Four One For All.”

Wesley has been officially named the Crucial Catch Honorary Captain. Florida Times-Union.

Hines-Allen had three steals in the team’s 20-12 loss to the Seahawks. The defensive star had three tackles, two for loss.

The two-time Pro Bowler has played for the Jaguars since the 2019 season. He has 53.5 sacks and 311 total tackles in his career, including 67 for loss.
